Requirements for Membership

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

BANA members must be certified by an accredited certification board including:

  1. Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA)
  2. The Licence Commission of the Americas (TLCTA)
  3. Natural Therapies Certification Board (NTCB)
  4. Neurotherapy and Biofeedback Certification Board (NBCB)

Biofeedback professionals certified by the following boards need to complete an approved course in professional ethics, create and use an approved informed consent form, take a workshop in basic coaching techniques and become certified by an accredited certification board to qualify for membership:

  1. AADP
  2. ABBP
  3. IMUNE
  4. NHECB
  5. NRNP

ACCEPTABLE BIOFEEDBACK-RELATED TECHNOLOGIES

The following biofeedback-related technologies may be used in a biofeedback practice and are covered by the professional and general insurance benefit package offered by BANA:

  1. Biofeedback devices including classical biofeedback, eeg biofeedback, bioenergetics, biofrequency, bioresonance and quantum biofeedback devices, using auditory, visual, kinesthetic or subtle energy feedback, that help clients reduce their stress and change the physiological parameters affecting their behavior and/or conscious or subconscious thinking.

  2. Quantitative electroencephalograph (QEEG), hemoencephalograph (HEG), eeg biofeedback, neurofeedback and neurotherapy devices, using auditory, visual, kinesthetic or subtle energy feedback, that require clients to change their own brain wave patterns that affect their mental, emotional, physical or psychological state.

  3. Audio, audio-visual, kinesthetic and visual entrainment devices that teach clients how to normalize their physical, mental, emotional and psychological states based on training the brain waves to normalize brain functioning.

  4. Cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) and electrostimulation devices that train clients reduce their physical, mental and emotional pain and normalize their physical, mental and emotional states.

OPTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES COVERED UNDER DUAL PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP

  1. Acupressure and related therapies if you are certified in this technique by an approved certification board. See Healer Coach for a fairly complete listing of acupressure and related therapies. If you have any questions or concerns about a form of acupressure not listed there, please contact BANA headquarters.

  2. Alternative therapies if you are suitable certified in alternative therapies or any of the following specialties: applied kinesiology, cold laser, color therapy, cranial sacral therapy, crystal therapy, ear coning, kinesthetic therapy, light therapy, oil drop technique, pain management, passive sound therapy, spiritual healing and stress management. Kinesthetic therapy refers to touch therapy using a passive or active device. Passive sound therapy refers to tuning fork, Tibetan bowl and similar therapies not related to the Tomatis Method. Certification is not required.

  3. Aromatherapy if you are certified in this technique by an approved certification board.

  4. Homeopathy if you are certified or licensed by an approved certification or licensing board.

  5. Hypnotism if you are certified or licensed by an approved certification or licensing board.

  6. Massage therapy if you are lawfully licensed or certified by your state or province.

  7. Naturopathy if you are certified or licensed by an approved certification or licensing board.

  8. Reflexology and related therapies if you are certified in this technique by an approved certification board. If you have any questions or concerns about a form of reflexology not listed there, please contact BANA headquarters.

  9. Spiritual healing is covered for all spiritual healers licensed by an FSHLB accredited or accepted spiritual healer license board. If you have any questions or concerns about your spiritual healer license, contact FSHLB directly or visit their website.
